The commons thread, as far as thoughts, in ALL people who are in addiction or have depression, include the following. Not everyone asks or thinks the same statements; however, most of these are included in the minds of a substance user or a depressed person. A depressed or anxious person is the next one to become addicted.
- Why am I even here; my life is useless.
- I have no purpose.
- No one loves me.
- I’m down and feel hopeless.
- I just want to be left alone.
- I failed, so I’ll never try again.
- There’s no future for someone like me.
- I can’t do it.
- I won’t try.
- Don’t ask me to do that.
- I can’t live without my pills; they keep me alive.
- They will make fun of me if I do that.
- I’m not smart enough.
- I’m not good enough.
- I’m not putting myself out there again, just to be knocked down like before.
- I’ll never get married again; it hurts too much.
- I won’t try another business because I failed at this one.
- I’m not pretty enough… I’m not handsome enough… I’m not talented enough… etc.
- I didn’t have enough schooling for that.
- I just want to sleep.
- I’m not going anywhere.
- Leave me alone.
- Let someone else tackle that.
- Someone, help me; I can’t do it myself.
All of the above have roots in despair and low self-esteem. Something broke in them at some point in the earlier years. It’s up to us to fix the brokenness – but not alone. We work with God and the Bible in our ministry. We see miracles when people receive salvation through Jesus Christ and learn about all of the blessings and promises through the supernatural pages of the Scripture.
I know, I know. We live in a time when Christian persecution is at an all time high. It’s a time of extreme lawlessness and immorality. Babies are being slaughtered in the womb all around the globe. It’s the end of days. You grow up believing in Santa Clause and fairy tales, so why should God be real, you ask? I believe that the most sinister, seductive and insidious act of the enemy (Satan) is to have kids disappointed in his areas that include Santa Clause, a fake Christmas that completely excludes the birth of the Messiah, fairy tales, and too much more that I’m not going to mention here. My point is, there IS a God and the Bible is true in every way. There hasn’t been found one error or one prophecy foretold that didn’t come to pass. It has survived the test of time. Archaeology has also proven the truth in the Bible and the existence of God. This post isn’t to defend the Bible; that’s something for you to investigate and have the faith to believe. I can’t do that for you. My point is that when you let the Lord Jesus Christ have all of you, He transforms you and makes you new! He strengthens you in your weakness and He makes you unstoppable and filled with peace, hope and joy. And… He ends addiction! Don’t you want that? Won’t you try the one and only God of the Bible?
Your options are to ultimately overdose, die from the ravages of organ failure from prescription drugs, keep going through the revolving door rehab system, keep 12 stepping (ugh… a lie), and/or live a meaningless existence. OR… you can receive Jesus and get a new life, free of pills… free of addiction… free of despair… free of hopeless… and just plain FREE!
What will you do?
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
